We have said that Righteousness is a work of grace and not of works. However, this grace gave us a responsibility of faith to commit to righteousness. The commitment to righteousness is still not a function of our personal effort but a function of our faith in Jesus Christ.
Titus 2:11-12
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Romans 6:1-3&13
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
The whole of Romans 6 tells us of the responsibilities of man unto righteousness.
The responsibilities of faith unto righteousness are as follows:
1. Not to continue in sin through our faith in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:1
2. Responsibility to work in the newness of life by faith in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:4
3. Responsibility to walk with the understanding that our body of sin is dead (the old man).
4. Responsibility to walk with the understanding that you are dead to sin. Romans 6:11
5. Responsibility not to allow sin reign in your mortal bodies.
Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
6. Responsibility not to yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness
Romans 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
7. Responsibility to yield your members as instruments of righteousness. Romans 6:13.
We have an ultimate goal to make heaven (everlasting life), to attain this goal we must accept our responsibility unto righteousness that we may become holy and be able to make it into heaven
Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
This responsibility of faith begins in the place of prayer, as you pray your way unto righteousness, a spiritual change will begin to take place, the spiritual change we flow from the spirit to the subconscious and then to the conscious. By this change, your body, soul and spirit become connected to righteousness and the body of sin is destroyed the seed of God remains in you and righteousness becomes your lifestyle.
