His trials and punishment

John 18:12-40, John 19:1-15, Matthew 26:59-75, Mathew 27:1-26

1. The Cock crowed after Peter denied Jesus the third time.

The cock crowing was to draw Peter's attention to His sin. Jesus specifically told him that he will deny him before the cock crow. So immediately the Cock crowed his attention was immediately drawn to his sin. The crowing cock represents our conscience, which God has placed in us to draw our attention to our sin.

Application: The question is how do you react when the cock crow? Peter wept bitterly and was remorseful for the deed done.

Is your cock still crowing? For some people, their conscience is dead, the cock no longer crow. This is a bad state but it is not beyond the redemptive power of the blood of Jesus.

2. The scourging of Jesus Christ

The scourging of Christ was commanded by Pilate. Jesus was beaten by the Roman band with the Roman whip called flagrum. The flagrum is used to remove the flesh of man easily. It has zinc, iron and bone embedded in the whip. Jesus was scourged, and the scourging was prophesied years before he was scourged.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes, we are healed.

Prophet Isaiah saw the scourging a long time ago, Pilate fulfilled the prophecy. Whether godly or ungodly God uses people to fulfil His prophecy.

The scourging of Jesus Christ was a spiritual provision for the healing of the people of God. It was carefully arranged and Jesus played the part with a lot of pains and agony.

Application: Sometimes you may be offended, pained, hindered, traumatized, held bound etc by an individual please look at the bright side, look at God, the person may be fulfilling God's will, purpose or prophecy at the time. Jesus went through that scourging knowing that Pilate was only fulfilling what heaven has appointed for the healing of mankind. Key into this spiritual provision for your healing. By faith dominate sickness and diseases by standing on the scriptures "...with His stripes, you are healed"

3. The crown of thorns was placed on Jesus Christ head

The soldiers in their attempt to mock and ridicule Jesus made a crown of thorns and placed it on His head. It was painful and agonising. The thorn is a symbol of sin. When Adam and Eve sinned thorns was one of the curses that God placed on them.

Genesis 3:17-18 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

The soldiers were spiritually placing the sin or the curse of the whole world on Him. He became a symbol of sin and curse.

Application: Whenever you sin, you are attracting thorns to yourself because thorns is one of the curses associated with sin. A man living in sin will have thorns placed on his head. No matter how rich and comfortable it appears a man or a woman is if he or she is living in sin pains, agony, and discomfort will abide with him because of the spiritual thorns placed on his head. That is why you see a successful person being depressed. Avoid thorns by surrendering your life to Jesus. Jesus was made a curse for us by bearing that thorn on His head so that we will no longer live under this curse.
