The meaning of rest is well captured in this scripture Job 11:14-19
"If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles. For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be steadfast, and shalt not fear: Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday: thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning. And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety. Also, thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee"
This scripture reveals the basis of entering into His rest as - putting iniquity far from you and not allowing wickedness in your tabernacle. How do you achieve this basis? By submitting to His Lordship. FAITH TO SUBMIT is one of the faith that was identified in the first part of this series. There is no man who can by himself put away iniquity according to David in Psalm 51:5, he said I was shapened in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me. If iniquity flows in our DNA how can we put it away by ourselves? Peter thought his passion and determination could do it but it failed before a maid. Determination is proving to have failed. Until we submit to Jesus we cannot overcome sin. He is the one that can connect us spiritually for a change of DNA. Up till now, many who claim to have given their lives to him are still struggling with sin.
Faith to submit...
1. To lay down your life: This means to give your life to Jesus Christ. Mathew 16:25 "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it" The problem is many are still keeping the real things they hold important that makes their life. Until we lay all down before he takes over and helps us to overcome the power of sin.
2. Lay down your power: The power that we have is our will. Until we lay down our will for His will to become our will we have not truly submitted to His Lordship. Jesus shows us this power in His statement John 10:18 "No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I just received of my Father."
The power to lay down is in our hand. All we need to do is to sincerely give it up for His will to rule over ours. Our understanding of this is the faith required for our submission.
3. Receive His word: Receiving His word demands an acceptance that His words are spirit and life. Open up your heart to receive the word as the deer panteth after the water brooks.
4. Give Him full and unrestricted access: To be broken demands full access to Him. You give Him full access by making Him (His word, instruction or demand) the first consideration in every area of your life. This is what is lacking in some believers who claim to have surrendered their life to Jesus and are still found in iniquity.
These are what the Faith to submit demands. As you follow this path and carry out a check to confirm your submission may the light of God show brightly in your spirit man to help you connect to the REST that God has destined for you in Jesus name.
